|Physician, Dr Winteringham whose son became surgeon to H.M. King George III. In 1806, it became the official residence of the Assize Court Judges and remained so until the 1970s when it was converted into the small and friendly hotel it is today.
In November 2012, Daniel Thwaites plc, a Lancashire-based brewery, bought the hotel with plans to re-invest and bring it in to their small, but growing, collection of Thwaites Inns of Character.
With a tradition of inn-keeping going back as far as 1651, it’s important that all the history and charm of the Judges Lodgings is maintained, but equally we want to breathe a new lease of life in to the old building.
It’s business as usual for the moment but we will be unveiling exciting plans for development of the bar and all the external terraces in the next few months.
