There has been so much going on over the last few weeks as we have worked to get everything ready to reopen- I can’t believe I am now in my 3^rd month here at the Judges! We have tidied and dusted (and dusted again on several occasions!)to get the bar shining and looking spick and span ready to be reopened and we have recruited a team ready to man the pumps.

More great news- the scaffolding is starting to come down and it’s fantastic to have the top of the building looking freshly painted and pointed and ready to keep watch over us for the next hundred years.

Whilst the scaffolding is removed, we will only be able to open during the evening from 5pm on weekdays but will be open from 10am on Saturday & Sunday- perfect for morning coffee.

My focus now turns to getting our kitchen reopened and getting food served and I will be working closely with our new chefs to help build the kitchen team (we’re still recruiting so CVs for all roles most welcome) and create our menu- watch this space for more developments very soon.

So myself and the team look forward to welcoming you all to the Judges Lodgings very soon- we will be selling a fine range of cask ales, in particular from Daniel Thwaites, wines,bottled beers  and soft drinks as well as Tchibo coffee.

Please remember that we have some grand plans in store for the Judges- this is only the beginning.

After all the hard work of the last few months I will definitely raise a glass to that- Cheers.

As promised I wanted to keep everyone updated with the progress we are making at the Judges.

Easter has come and gone and we have finally had a couple of warm afternoons to banish the memories of the late snowfall everyone had.

We are now recruiting in earnest for our front and back of house teams and are looking to be open in early May-please drop me a line with an up to date CV if you are interested in joining us – relax@judgeslodgingsyork.co.uk.

The work is going to plan and the scaffolding is due to be removed in mid-May- I can’t wait for the building to be on full show again!

We have new garden furniture on the front courtyard and all the flower beds have been replenished so it really will be the perfect place to sit and watch the world go by in the summer months. The Cellar Bar has been decorated and we have added a few bits of furniture to keep us going until planning is approved and we can get going on our redevelopment. The new beer pumps are due to be fitted any day now- so lots to keep us busy and we’ll shortly be opening for drinks whilst we get the kitchen ready and finish pulling together our spring menu.

There has been a lot of local interest in our plans and we had an article published in the York Evening Press sharing some of our plans with the people of York. We are really happy to have so much support. Thank you

I would also like to say a big thank you to all of our guests who have left such kind reviews on Trip Advisor, Late Rooms and Booking.com amongst other sites- thank you for your warm words towards the team, it’s been a challenging few months so your comments have been especially pleasing and are always a great boost for our team!

I know that the building has a special place in the history of York and I am delighted that Thwaites Inns of Character have seized the opportunity to restore it back to its former glory and also to give York a fabulous venue for food, drink and accommodation.

This is the first of our regular online updates that we will be using to keep you informed of our progress as we restore the building and also start to do some work on the food and drink offer- watch this space as there are exciting times ahead!

As many of you will be aware, the building is currently shrouded in scaffolding and tarpaulin as we have the exterior re-pointed and painted. This phase has lasted longer than we initially expected and although a bit of an eyesore, we hope you will agree that it’s the right thing to do to ensure that we restore this beautiful building for the next 100 years . We are hoping to have the scaffolding down by the middle of May.

So, onto our initial plans…

For our hotel rooms it is very much business as usual – we have some great value rates whilst the external building work is carried out so there are some bargain room rates to be had!

We are planning to open the cellar bar and kitchen back up by early May with a full food and drink offer – just in time for the warmer (fingers crossed) summer months. We can’t wait to see the courtyard at the front of the hotel brimming with guests on a summer evening watching the world go by. We’ll will be needing a team to help us do this so if you think you would like to be part of our big adventure why not get in touch?

We also have grand long term plans for the Judges Lodgings – this is just the beginning of our journey – lots more to follow soon. The one thing that is for sure, is that we want to be one York’s most popular venues for food and drink offer in gorgeous surroundings- and we’re determined to succeed.
