| We’re a small, but perfectly formed, townhouse hotel with an enviable position right in the heart of the City of York. Our Grade I listed Georgian building has seen many changes through the years and as you’ll have guessed by the name, was the official residence for the Assize Court judges for over 170 years – in fact until 1976, when it evolved into a commercial hotel. Further changes are afoot as we’re now part of the Thwaites family - a Lancashire-based brewery – and we’re all looking forward to seeing the new Judges Lodgings emerge over the coming months. We are keen to restore to The Judges Lodgings to its former glory and ensure it’s around for many more years for visitors to enjoy the wonderful architecture and history. This does mean that we need to undertake considerable external repairs to the building which does involve hiding our lovely exterior behind some scaffolding for a number of weeks. Although there is little noise disruption there may be some during the day midweek – but the builders will not be working weekends. Work is underway on the lower ground floor to re-open the cellar bar in the spring, but in the meantime we’re offering a great quality continental breakfast for our guests in the dining room. It’s business as usual in our stylish guest rooms, which have been completely refurbished and offer today’s traveller all the mod cons – including iPod docking stations and DVD players.
